A youth was run over to death allegedly by the relatives of a 16-year-old girl with whom he was having an affair over the last year, police said on Thursday. Police said the incident occurred on April 1.
Police said after killing the victim, aged 20, the accused threw the body in an isolated place in Sahibabad to make it look like an accident. The body was recovered from the spot on April 4.
The girl’s family members had reportedly lodged a missing person complaint on April 2 at GTB Enclave police station after she came to meet her elder sister in the same area. But investigators were baffled when the victim’s father also lodged a missing person complaint for his son, Sagar. After probing the case for a week, Delhi Police on Thursday evening apprehended four persons, including two juveniles, in connection with the alleged murder.
Confirming the arrests, DCP (Northeast), Veenu Bansal, told Newsline that the arrested persons have been identified as Rahul, the girl’s brother-in-law, and his cousin Ankur, aged around 22. “They have told police that they committed the crime as the family was opposed to the relationship,” Bansal said.
Police said Sagar worked in a garment factory and lived in Ghaziabad with his parents and brother. “The incident occurred on April 1 when the girl came to meet her elder sister and the victim came to meet the girl. They were found together by the girl’s brother-in-law, who in turn informed the victim’s parents and they decided to kill the victim,” a senior police officer claimed.
Police said on April 1, Rahul directed her to call the victim and asked him to come to the Loni area of Ghaziabad. “Rahul, along with his cousins, came in their car and started beating up the victim in front of the girl,” the officer said.
They then confined Sagar for some hours and took him to Sahibabad in their car and crushed him under the wheels before disposing of the body, police said.
“After committing the crime, they escaped from the spot and confined the girl, forcing her to remain silent,” the police officer said. To mislead the police, they later lodged a missing person complaint and alleged that Sagar had allegedly kidnapped her.
It took the police a week to unearth the entire plot.
